Ultimate Impact Protection
Polyurethane Foam provides the ultimate protection against minor impact or contact with walls, beams, or columns. Standard size pads are 6′ x 2′ with a 1″ nailing margin on the top and bottom of each panel. Custom sizing and precision cutouts for power outlets, fire extinguishers, and structural obstacles are fully supported to ensure a seamless fit.
Commercial-Grade Composition
Pads are constructed using 2″ thick 3.5-lbs. density polyurethane foam firmly cemented to 7/16″ oriented strand board (OSB). The outer cover material is a heavy-duty 14-ounce polyester laminated vinyl, securely stapled to the wood backing every 2 inches for exceptional tear resistance and longevity.

Where wall padding is required — and where it just makes sense
Wall padding falls under spec section 10 26 00 (wall and door protection), and it shows up on drawings for a reason: hard masonry walls a few feet past a baseline or under a backstop are how gym injuries happen. Typical installations include:

For projects where the specification calls for it, fire-retardant Class A pad constructions and padding tested to ASTM F2440 (the impact-attenuation standard for wall padding used behind courts and play areas) are available — tell us what your spec or architect requires and we’ll match it.
Four mounting options
How pads attach matters more than most buyers expect, because it decides whether the padding is permanent or removable.
- Standard nail lip — the pad’s top and bottom margins screw directly to the wall. The most economical option and the right choice for padding that never comes down.
- Z-clip mounting — interlocking clips let panels lift off the wall without tools. The right choice for multipurpose rooms, walls that need periodic access, or facilities that remove padding seasonally.
- Aluminum channel — top and bottom channels hold the panels in a clean, finished line; panels slide out for replacement.
- Velcro system — fully removable attachment for spaces where padding goes up and comes down regularly.

Mavi is a supply-and-install contractor, not a catalog. Our crews install wall padding throughout the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and we coordinate the details that make these jobs go smoothly: field measurement before ordering, layout around door frames and equipment, cutouts for outlets and fire pulls, and scheduling around school calendars — most school gym padding installs happen in summer windows or over breaks, and we plan for that. For occupied facilities, we can work after hours.
We also supply padding on a furnish-only basis for GCs and out-of-area projects.
Frequently asked questions
How thick should gym wall padding be? The commercial standard is 2″ of foam over a rigid backer, which is what we supply. Thicker or firmer constructions are available where a specification or an ASTM F2440 impact requirement calls for them.
How high should wall padding be mounted? Most gym padding runs 6′ high, starting at or near the floor. The exact height and the length of wall covered are usually set by the architect’s drawings or district standards — send us your drawings and we’ll do the takeoff.
Can wall pads be removed and reinstalled? Yes — that’s what Z-clip and Velcro mounting are for. Tell us how you use the room and we’ll recommend the right attachment method.
Can you put our school logo on the padding? Yes. Custom graphics, logos, and lettering across multiple panels are one of our most requested options for school gyms.
Do you install, or just sell the pads? Both. We install throughout the New York Metro area, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and we can furnish material only for projects outside our installation area.
