Toilet Partition Shipping and Delivery: What Contractors Should Expect
A contractor’s guide to Division 10 freight logistics, delivery inspection protocols, 48-hour claim windows, and proper jobsite storage.
Division 10 is the CSI MasterFormat section covering specialties — toilet partitions and urinal screens, bathroom accessories, lockers, visual display boards, cubicle curtains and track, and wall and corner protection. It is the category of building products that gets installed near the end of the job, after the wet trades are done and the walls are finished.
That timing is why shipping matters so much on Division 10. Partitions land late in the schedule, often days before an inspection or a turnover date. There is no float. A damaged door discovered three weeks after delivery is a replacement lead time you do not have.
Partitions also ship awkwardly. A stall is made of flat panels, pilasters (the vertical posts that support the panels), doors, and a bag of hardware. Nothing nests, everything is large, and the finished faces are exposed to whatever the freight handling does to them.
How Toilet Partitions Ship: LTL Freight on Pallets
Toilet partitions ship LTL freight — less-than-truckload, meaning your pallets share a trailer with other shippers’ loads and get transferred between terminals along the way. They arrive on a large semi-trailer.
The material comes palletized and covered in cardboard. Boxes are frequently large — five feet tall is normal — and heavy. Plan for significant handling, not a parcel drop.
Two key consequences of LTL shipping:
- Your freight is handled multiple times: Every terminal transfer is another forklift touchpoint where corner and edge damage can happen.
- The driver is not there to help you unload: Offloading is strictly the contractor’s responsibility.
At Mavi New York, all necessary hardware is included with the order, lead time is typically two to five business days, and we ship to all 50 states. Installation is a different matter — Mavi installs throughout the NYC metro area, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Before the Truck Arrives
Two essential logistics steps to handle ahead of time:
- Track the shipment: Mavi customer support sends tracking details right after the order ships. Check the status on the freight carrier’s site to anticipate the delivery day and window. The delivery team will call to schedule an appointment — confirm the call, lock in the time, and ensure an authorized receiver will be on site to inspect and sign.
- Clear space and arrange offloading equipment: You need a designated staging area for a large pallet and appropriate equipment to unload the truck (such as a loading dock or forklift). If your jobsite lacks these, notify customer support before the order ships so liftgate delivery or other alternatives can be arranged. Sourcing a liftgate in advance prevents expensive redelivery fees. For larger orders, ensure an adequate crew is staged to receive the materials.
During Delivery: Inspect Before You Sign
Your signature on the delivery receipt is a binding acknowledgment that the shipment arrived intact and undamaged. Always complete a thorough inspection first:
1. Check Outer Packaging
Look for torn wrapping, crushed corners, ripped cardboard, or leaning pallets. Always photograph the outer packaging prior to unboxing.
2. Note Damage on the Receipt
If packaging shows abuse, explicitly write “Damaged Material” with model numbers and descriptions on the driver’s bill of lading.
3. Protect Against Hurried Drivers
If the driver cannot wait for a piece-by-piece check, write “subject to further inspection” to keep the concealed damage claim window open.
4. Count and Verify Items
Cross-check bill of lading counts for panels, doors, pilasters, and hardware bags. Discrepancies should be recorded and reported right away.
Claims for damaged or missing materials must be submitted within 48 hours of delivery to qualify for no-cost replacements.
Required documentation to send customer support:
- High-resolution photo of the damaged component.
- Clear photo of the manufacturer label on the item or packaging.
- A legible copy of the delivery receipt showing written damage notations.
- A list of missing items, including specific quantities.
Storing Partitions Until Installation
Prevent jobsite storage damage by following standard handling protocols:
- Store panels flat on a level surface: Uneven stacking or leaning panels against walls causes warping, which is not covered under warranty.
- Avoid overloading: Never stack tools, construction supplies, or heavy objects on top of finished panels and doors.
- Secure all hardware: Keep pilasters, hinges, brackets, and fasteners organized inside labeled boxes. Missing hardware packages create unnecessary project downtime.
- Stage clear of trade traffic: Position materials away from wet areas, heavy equipment paths, and high-foot-traffic routes.
